Dubby Nocturne – night pieces for piano + downbeat, that's how Dirk Schlömer defines his new solo project. The focus is on piano ostinatos and melodies! "Being involved with my second instrument, many years after I had a few lessons with the cantor of my home parish, led me directly to the two unbeatable strengths of the instrument - unusual chord progressions and, above all, melodies. The reason for almost completely omitting the guitar was initially the study of the incomparable music of G.I. Gurdieff, who already in the 1920s managed to transfer oriental folk and ritual music to the western piano. That's why the connection with dub and downbeat is so simple and logical, it fits together in an archaic way, as if different, very distant cultures had heard the same (primordial) rhythm. So it's perhaps not that surprising when a guitarist makes a piano record that spreads warmth in warm soundscapes and relaxed grooves, but also a lot of melancholy and mysticism. “I wanted to make modern cave music. Music for the night hours when you are alone with yourself and all you need as a companion is a reliable soundtrack!”
